Wayfold in numbers

How a chapter study works

  1. Read. The whole chapter in the World English Bible, word for word.
  2. Check. A few questions about what happened; the words that answer each one are highlighted in the verse.
  3. Trace. Put the chapter's main events in the order they happen.
  4. Find the verse. You get a prompt, then tap the line in the chapter that answers it.
  5. Go deeper. Short notes on history and meaning, each marked as what the text says, history, interpretation or debated.
  6. Lead it. Export a PDF leader guide with an answer key for your small group.

Every chapter, on the map

Open a chapter in the Bible reader to see the places it mentions on a map, each with a label for how sure scholars are of the location and where it comes from. Open a place to see every chapter that mentions it.

Moriah: the altar becomes the temple

Genesis 22:2 → 2 Chronicles 3:1 · In the text

The mountain where Abraham offered Isaac is named again as the site of Solomon's temple.

[Debated] Genesis names “the land of Moriah,” so whether it was precisely the same summit is debated. Jewish tradition and Josephus identify the two.

Joshua → Jesus: one name

Joshua 1:2 → Matthew 1:21 · History

Joshua and Jesus share the same Hebrew name, meaning “Yahweh saves.”

Temple rededicated → Jesus at the Feast of Dedication

Questions

What is Wayfold?

Wayfold is an iPhone and iPad app that helps you understand what you read in the Bible, on your own or with a small group. It has guided studies of six books, one chapter at a time: you read the chapter, answer a few questions (each answer points to the exact words in the verse), put the main events in order, find a verse, and read a short note on the history or meaning. Any study chapter or whole study book can be printed as a leader guide. It also includes the whole Bible offline and a map that shows the places mentioned in a chapter (774 chapters mention at least one place).

Where can I download Wayfold?

Wayfold is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 18 or later): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wayfold-understand-the-bible/id6820304462. There is no Android version yet.

Is Wayfold a devotional app?

No. Wayfold is a study tool focused on comprehension and historical context. It has no daily verse, prayer tracker, streaks or games.

How accurate is the map?

Place locations come from OpenBible.info's Bible Geocoding Data (CC BY 4.0). Many biblical places are not certainly identified, so every place is labeled Well established, Likely, Debated, Uncertain or Location unknown. Journey lines connect stops in the order the text gives them; they are not reconstructions of actual roads.

Is Wayfold Catholic or Protestant?

Both. You choose the 66-book Protestant Bible or the 73-book Catholic Bible. Where traditions differ (for example on the canon, the Ten Commandments' numbering, Peter, or Communion) each view is described fairly in its own terms.

Which Bible translation does Wayfold use?

The World English Bible, a modern public-domain translation that includes the deuterocanonical books. Scripture is always quoted word for word.

Does Wayfold generate answers with AI?

No. Nothing is generated while you use the app. Every explanation is written in advance, labeled as Scripture, history, interpretation, tradition-specific or debated, and every quotation and reference is checked against the Bible text. Wayfold was built with Rork, an AI-assisted app builder, and its explanations were drafted with AI assistance under the developer's direction before being checked. If you spot an error, tell us and we'll correct it.

Do I need an account or internet?

No account. The Bible, the studies, the notebook and your progress work offline and stay on your device. The map's base tiles come from Apple Maps and need a connection; place names, labels and verses are stored in the app.

Is there a dark mode?

Yes. Switch between parchment (light) and night ink (dark) with one tap, or follow your device setting.

Can I use Wayfold to lead a Bible study group?

Yes. Every chapter and every study book can be exported as a printable PDF leader guide: a short introduction, the chapter outline in order, discussion questions with an answer key and the verses that prove each answer, a background note, the places named and a reflection question. Print it, save it to Files or send it to your group. Guides for the free Ruth and Jonah studies are free, and the free study guides on this website show the same questions and answers.

How much does Wayfold cost?

The download is free, and so are the Ruth and Jonah studies and their group guides, the full Bible reader with places for every chapter, search, the whole map and timeline, four journeys and seven background lessons. Wayfold Premium adds the Philippians, James, Habakkuk and Philemon studies and their leader guides, six more journeys, every background lesson, highlights and verse notes, as one optional purchase: $89.99 once (US price). No subscription and nothing renews. The app shows the price in your local currency.
